CV Summary

Cristina Santinho is an integrated researcher at CRIA, with contract awarded by CRIA, FCT funding. She belongs to the Research Group "Governance, Policies and Daily Life". She has a PhD from the Department of Anthropology of ISCTE/IUL with the thesis "Refugees and Asylum Seekers in Portugal: political contours in the health field" (2011). Her research area, par excellence, has been the reception and integration of refugees in Portugal.

 

LECTIVE ACTIVITIES AND GUIDELINES: Coordinates and teaches two courses, at CRIA, ISCTE-IUL:1) Specialization in Refugees, Human Rights and Reception: National and International Perspectives" and 2) "Living in a Different Culture", course created to facilitate the access of refugee students to higher education. She also teaches in the subject of Multiculturalism, in the Laboratory of Languages and Transverse Skills (LLCT)-ISCTE-IUL. She was a professor of Immigration and Health at the Master of Development Studies (ISCTE-IUL, 2014). She is often invited to give lectures on the subject of refugees, both by ISCTE-IUL faculty and other universities. She is in charge of the orientation of several masters and doctoral theses in the area of migration and refugees.

 

RESEARCH/PROJECTS: as part of her research she develops the project: "Refugees: vulnerability, resilience and inclusion in a democratic society, in the context of socio-economic crisis". She is a consultant for several projects, with FCT funding, namely: "The integration of refugees in Portugal: an assessment of moral duties of assistance and integration policies in the context of European policies and values", (UNL-FCSH) and DAPHNE International Project, an academic and multisectoral project to prevent and combat female genital cutting/mutilation (CEI-ISCTE-IUL). She has participated, as a researcher, in several FCT projects, the most recent being: "Uncertainty in daily life and (im)possibilities of thinking about the future. Change in working conditions and ways of living everyday life. Rebuilding life in a Crisis context", coordinated by Antónia Pedroso de Lima (CRIA) and "RE- HOME: Assessing asylum seekers and refugees' reception and integration in Portugal", coordinated by Francesco Vacchiano (ICS). She also participated, as a researcher, in the following national and international funded projects: "Care as a factor of sustainability in crisis situations" (Coordination: Antónia Lima); "Migration, Integration and Co-developpment, in Europe" Coordination, in Portugal: Cristina Santinho; T-SHaRE - Cross-cultural competences for health and care": Coordination: Chiara Pussetti.

 

AWARDS: In 2017/2018, she received the award from the Portuguese Association of Anthropology, in Category II: Research Project/Applied Intervention, entitled: "Project of integration of refugee students in the academic context/Living in a Different Culture".

PARTICIPATION IN ACADEMIC NETWORKS: Co-coordinates several networks, in partnership with researchers from other research centres (CIES-IUL; IGOT; ICS), namely: "RMIR - Refugees, Migration, Initiatives and Reflections" (https://www.facebook.com/refugiadosrmir/); and "Meetings on Migration Experiences" (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1485182381777457/).
