MARGARIDA E SÁ DE VAZ GARRIDO, Ph.D. in Psychology (2007), is an Associate Professor at ISCTE-IUL, where she teaches since 1998.
Her research is theoretically based on social psychology and a situated approach to human cognition, which emphasizes the importance of the context in which cognitive activity develops. She has applied this approach to the study of memory, cognitive representations, and processing of a second language. At the same time, she has explored its implications for the study of abusive parenting, social images of institutionalized children / youth, memory processing in clinical populations, and in the areas of consumer psychology, marketing and eating behavior. She has coordinated several funded research projects (FCT, EU), as well as doctoral and postdoctoral students. She has obtained several individual fellowships that allowed her to work during her Ph.D. at the University of California - Santa Barbara and more recently at Utrecht University. Her research work has been published in dozens of books, chapters and international scientific journals (e.g., Journal of Experimental Social Psychology, European Journal of Social Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Social Cognition, Cognition and Emotion, Behavior Research Methods). She is also the editor and co-author of pedagogical publications, including manuals, chapters and articles for students / researchers.
She has held academic and scientific management positions, namely the direction of the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology and  the Master of Social and Organizational Psychology. She was also Vice-Director of CIS-IUL and President of the Portuguese Association of Psychology. She is currently Director of the PhD Program in Psychology.
