Patricia Bandeira de Melo holds a PhD in Sociology, conferred by the Federal University of Pernambuco on 25 February 2010, and a Master’s degree in Communication from the same institution, awarded on 17 October 2003. She is currently an Associate Professor at the School of Social Communication of the Polytechnic Institute of Lisbon and an integrated researcher at the Laboratory for Applied Research in Communication and Media (LIACOM). She also serves as an Associate Researcher at the Centre for Research and Studies in Sociology (CIES‑ISCTE). She is a member of the Political Economy of Communication and Culture Research Group (EPCC) at the Casa de Rui Barbosa Foundation in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Her publications include articles in peer‑reviewed, indexed journals; authored books and book chapters; and full papers and abstracts in conference proceedings. Her research and teaching span the Social Sciences, particularly Communication Sciences and Sociology, with a focus on the Political Economy of Communication and Culture, and Media Literacy. She has coordinated several research groups and served on the Social Research Board of the Joaquim Nabuco Foundation, where she lectured on postgraduate courses. She has also taught at the Higher School of Public Relations, the Federal University of Pernambuco, and Maurício de Nassau College.
