WISE-AI
Fostering Young Women’s Employability by Promoting Sustainable Development Goals through Artificial Intelligence
Description

The WISE-AI project aims to address the low participation of women in AI sciences and support the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Despite the increasing importance of AI in various fields, women remain underrepresented in this sector. By combining training and educational play, the project seeks to empower young women in entrepreneurship and AI skills, bridging the gender gap and promoting inclusion and equality. The project will leverage innovative educational methods, using a game-based approach to make learning engaging and effective.

Challenge

Enable young women to explore and develop entrepreneurship skills in the AI field, promoting inclusion and equality. Encourage the innovation and sustainability of the SDGs through an engaging and fun game environment. Development of a Knowledge Portal with AI basic skills and competences for custom training of young women. Creation of a Minecraft game specializing in skills retention challenges related to AI and SDG goals.

Approach

The project will use a combination of educational play and structured training to engage participants and ensure skills retention. It will also involve the development of digital tools to complement physical activities and improve cooperation among partner organizations.

Academic Research Impact

The WISE-AI project makes several significant contributions to the theoretical understanding of learning methodologies and the integration of AI in learning environments. First, the project explores the effectiveness of gamification, particularly through the use of Minecraft, in enhancing learning outcomes. It provides empirical evidence on how game-based learning can improve engagement, motivation, and retention of complex subjects like AI and sustainable development goals (SDGs). Second, by integrating AI and SDGs into a unified curriculum, the project offers a model for interdisciplinary education. This approach helps in understanding how different fields can be taught together to provide a more holistic educational experience, fostering critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Third, the project contributes to the body of knowledge on digital literacy and skills development among young women. It demonstrates how tailored educational programs can bridge the gender gap in STEM fields, particularly in AI, and promote inclusion and equality. Finally,  WISE-AI introduces innovative pedagogical methods that combine traditional training with interactive digital tools. This hybrid approach provides insights into how technology can be leveraged to enhance traditional educational practices and improve learning outcomes.

Economic and Societal Impact

A comprehensive training methodology on AI skills and the WISE-AI Minecraft game. Increased employability and entrepreneurship skills among young women, enhanced education and e-learning opportunities in the ICT sector, and more inclusive and accessible educational opportunities.

The project aims to create sustainable educational resources that continue to support young women in AI and SDG-related fields beyond the project’s duration.
