Resumo CV
Rolando Volzone is an integrated researcher at DINÂMIA'CET-iscte - ISCTE-IUL, with the project "Religious Heritage Observatory. Understanding dynamics of the secular transition towards innovative models for sustainable heritage management", and associate researcher at IEM - NOVA FCSH. He completed his MSc studies in Architecture in Rome (Sapienza, 2012). In the meantime, in 2011, he moved to Lisbon, through an Erasmus grant. Since then, he has delved deeper into the field of landscape architecture, both at the university and in a prestigious firm. After 3 years of architectural practice, he began his PhD journey (granted by FCT, at ISCTE-IUL), focusing on the construction of a sacred landscape (in the Alentejo region) from the middle-ages to the 19th century. During his PhD, in 2018, he was visiting researcher, at the University of Florence, in 3D digital documentation and GIS technology, with subsequent application in Italy, Spain, Portugal, and Cyprus. He concluded his PhD with distinction in December 2020. In 2017, he introduced a novel debate in Portugal through the coordination of the international conferences 'Architectures of the Soul', that brought together Portuguese research centers (4) and international partners (12). This laid the foundation for a strong international network, resulting in the elaboration of the international project F-ATLAS (funded by the JPI Cultural Heritage). He co-designed the proposal, as local CO-PI, which was successfully funded in 2021. In this project, the methodology he developed in his PhD research was scaled up to the European level. He is the Principal Investigator of the project "transHERITAGE - Transformative Religious Heritage: Bridging Northern and Southern Europe Approaches" funded by EEAgrants, joining Portuguese and Norwegian partners. He has also been member in 2 national projects (CONVEMOS, SOUTH-VALTED), and 3 international COST Actions (U4V, MARGISTAR and PRAYTICIPATE). He is an expert member of the International Scientific Committees ICOMOS PRERICO and CIPA; moreover, he is member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the multidisciplinary team of experts "Future for Religious Heritage (FRH)". He is also an active member of the European Students' Association for Cultural Heritage (ESACH). This backdrop, as well as his scientific productions, gave him some national and international visibility. He gained experience in i) lecturing at MSc and PhD programs (in Portugal and Italy); ii) teaching on the subjects of "Contemporary Religious Architecture", "Conservation and Sustainability", "Final Design Studio"; iii) mentoring (15 early-stage researchers); iv) co-supervising (1 MSc and 2 PhD thesis); arguing (1 MSc, as main arguer, and 1 PhD thesis). Furthermore, since 2021 he has been a member of the Scientific Council of DINÂMIA'CET-Iscte, and, since 2023 of the Institute of Medieval Studies. His international and peer-reviewed publication track includes original articles in Q1-ranked journals (4), books chapters (9), conference papers (10), a magazine article (1), and book editions (2). Moreover, he participated in peer-reviewed national (10) and international (25) conferences. He is also a regular reviewer of three international journals (Q1, Q2, and Q3 ranked), and a referee of international publications (4). He has been coordinator (5) and co-organizer (4) of international conferences, coordinator of an international summer school (1), an exhibition (1), and co-organizer of international workshops (3). Finally, he promoted activities of knowledge dissemination among a wider audience and co-production with society: i) "European Heritage Days" (2018); ii) "Growing Alto Alentejo" (2021); iii) the Instagram page "architecturesofthesoul" (dissemination of RH, since 2022); iv) the workshop "INSTA-P" (European Research Night, 2022); v) the exhibition "Our Look. Heritage"; vi) the laboratory "Walking Maps of Lisbon" (since 2023).
