Abstract
The overall goal of this tutorial is to show how process mining and simulation techniques can be used to optimize resource assignment in process-aware information systems and outline the resulting service level. A meta-process of the proposed approach will serve as a backbone for the presentation, which will go through the following questions: ◦ How can we use process mining to discover the “as is” process model when we don’t have one? ◦ What are the parameters required for running a simulation? ◦ How can we reverse engineer the actual values of those parameters for the “as is” scenario? ◦ What are the outputs of a process simulation and how can they be interpreted? ◦ How can we define a process execution optimization function? ◦ Which simulation scenarios should we consider in the quest for process optimization? ◦ How can we express a service level agreement (SLA) based on the optimized simulation scenario?
