Abstract
A revolução de 25 de abril de 1974 alterou a participação das mulheres na política portuguesa. A partir de uma perspetiva histórica, este artigo oferece uma resenha da legislação e uma avaliação sociológica da classe política portuguesa com o objetivo de abordar a questão do género. Apesar do regime democrático estar quase a atingir as quatro décadas de existência, a realidade é que ainda se verifica uma sub-representação das mulheres nos cargos de representação política em Portugal. Em todos os níveis de governo avaliados as mulheres têm níveis mais altos de escolaridade e profissões com maior grau de especialização, especialmente nas áreas do ensino e da gestão. Os partidos mais à esquerda apresentam maior equidade de género.
