Abstract
The rapid spread of COVID-19 around the world had a significant impact on daily life. As in other countries, measures were taken in Portugal to combat the spread. The objective of this paper is to attain a perception of the reality concerning the COVID-19. With topic modeling and sentiment analysis, the adopted approach was validated within the context of Portugal, covering data over a period of one year, but it can equally be employed in similar situations and other countries. For this purpose, data was extracted from three sources (Twitter, Reddit and P´ublico). These data were prepared for application of natural language processing (NLP) tools specific to the Portuguese language. Then, a dashboard was built, and evaluated by experts in medical care, who highlighted the potential of the results obtained, concluding that the information extracted reflects the events related to the pandemic. All data will be made available upon request.
