Abstract
Summary: Sufficient conditions are given do deduce the tail of a service time distribution which leads to a specified tail for the busy period distribution. The exact busy period distribution is obtained for two particular service time distributions. When the mean service time is large enough and the arrival rate is fixed, it is shown a tendency of the busy period to be exponentially distributed. A numerical study is provided; which supports the exponential tendency. Bounds for the busy period nth moments are provided. The renewal process related to the busy period is studied.
