Abstract
In recent years, ethical considerations in dementia care have increasingly gained attention, prompting deeper reflection on the principles guiding clinical practice and highlighting the challenges faced by people with dementia and professionals in safeguarding their rights (Brannelly, 2016). Contemporary health and social care approaches seek to systematically address the complex ethical issues encountered by professional caregivers in dementia care, such as reconciling autonomy with safety concerns and managing informed consent for treatment decisions (EDEM Cost Action (CA21137), 2025; Robinson et al., 2012). These challenges are often exacerbated, in advanced dementia, when it is complex to ascertain the view of the person living with dementia and decisions are frequently made on behalf of individuals whose cognitive abilities are significantly impaired. The main objective of this scoping review is to map and characterize the teaching methodologies - both theoretical frameworks and practical strategies - used to deliver ethics education to professional caregivers in dementia care.

This project is developed under a task of COST Action EDEM (CA21137) aiming to systematically map and characterize the landscape of teaching methodologies used in ethics education for dementia care professionals.
