Abstract
This chapter:
Examines how early childhood education and care (ECEC) settings are key microsystems in children’s daily lives, and play a crucial role in fostering participation, with high‑quality interactions being essential to support meaningful participation;
Discusses how measuring participation is complex due to its subjective, multidimensional, and contextual nature; and
Explores whether participation in ECEC can be measured, how it can be measured, and what benefits participation holds for children and ECEC settings.
