| Sofia Louro Ribeiro | In a global economy, the topic of financial literacy has been discussed as a dichotomy between competence and behavior. After reading the article "Applying Behavior Theories to Financial Behavior" (Xiao, 2008), several questions arose regarding how this topic is being addressed by the population. Is financial illiteracy affected by a lack of financial psychology or by the lack of effective methods of teaching this sensitive subject? The choice of the topic also stemmed from reading the book "The Psychology of Money," an international bestseller by Housel, whose theme relates to the aforementioned article. Housel discusses the importance of financial intelligence in financial behavior in investments. This goes against what is assumed by the overwhelming majority of the population – it is necessary to introduce financial literacy from a very early age in schools.
