Master's Degree of Managing Digital Transformation in the Health Sector
Researcher
The Master's Degree in Managing Digital Transformation in the Health Sector (ManagiDiTH) is an innovative initiative in the European educational panorama, the result of a project financed by the European Union and led by the School of Applied Digital Technologies (Iscte-Sintra), in collaboration with two other universities: the Laurea - University of Applied Sciences, in Finland, and the AUTH - Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, in Greece. This Master's degree aims to train future professionals, both in the technological and healthcare areas, with essential skills to face the challenges and opportunities that the digital era brings to the healthcare sector. Given the rapid acceleration of technological development, there is an urgent need to equip professionals with the necessary tools to navigate this constantly evolving scenario. With a multidisciplinary and innovative curriculum, the ManagiDiTH master's degree integrates three fundamental components: societal, digital and health. Furthermore, students can choose between two areas of specialization: Data Science or Interoperability. This flexibility allows each student to personalize their training according to their interests and professional aspirations. Thus, students have the opportunity to deepen their knowledge in areas such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality, automation, cybersecurity and other emerging technologies that are redefining the way healthcare services are provided and managed. The study program, consisting of three semesters with a total of 90 ECTS, provides a solid theoretical basis combined with practical experiences and real projects in the sector. Teaching is taught in English, following the most recent pedagogical guidelines related to Distance Learning, which allows the participation of students of different origins and nationalities. The highly specialized teaching staff, coming from diverse academic and professional backgrounds, constitutes an added value of this master's ...

Sustainable Transformative Transitions (Sus2Trans)— Conciliate Accelerated Low Carbon Transitions with System Transformations
Researcher
The project investigates the types of decarbonisation strategies that comply with the Paris Agreement, whose implementation requires the transformation of several sectors in addition to energy, such as mobility, construction, food and industry. This sectoral transformation raises challenges for the development of countries and regions, which have become particularly pressing as states will have to accelerate the low-carbon transition with more fragile finances and the need for economic recovery after the pandemic crisis. The research combines theories of socio-technical transitions and economic geography to identify low-carbon transition pathways with the greatest transformative potential and to investigate how countries and regions are preparing for such transformation. The focus of this research is on the type of transition strategies that are most beneficial to the economy, that is, that have the capacity to generate changes in other sectors. The project studies the possible directions of the transition and its transformative capacity, assesses the extent to which the system is preparing for this mode of transition and identifies the areas that are leading or delaying change. To this end, it will develop a typology of transformational decarbonization strategies based on a systematic analysis of the literature. The project will also search for patterns of transformation towards sustainable production and consumption already emerging at business level, and match them with the theory-derived decarbonization strategies. The results will contribute to the discussion on the processes and modes of sustainable transitions associated with the economic characteristics of the different regions. The project will also contribute to the discussion on the influence of the context as a facilitator of or constraint on some types of decarbonization strategies, as well as will identify the strategic intervention levers under which policies can intervene in order to amplify the effe...

Rapid Diagnosis for Assessing the Country Level Impact of COVID-19
Principal Researcher
The objective is to collect statistical data and analyse the employment impacts of Covid-19 at the country-level. This exercise is not focusing on collecting policy responses; rather, the diagnostics will take a more detailed approach to analysing these issues. In particular, the rapid diagnostics will seek to: 1. Assess the current impact or most probable transmission mechanisms of the new coronavirus crisis on a country's economy and labour market. Deliverable 1: Synthesis report of the Rapid Assessment of employment impacts of COVID-19 Deliverable 2: Report containing updates to the initial assessment based on more recent economic and labour market data and policy developments 2. Evaluation of the Impact of the European Structural and Investment Funds (FEEI) on the Performance of Companies
Researcher
The aim of this evaluation is to estimate the impact of the European Structural and Investment Funds (ESIFs) on the performance of the companies supported, with reference to the objectives of the public policies under analysis. More specifically, it is intended to measure the effects of Incentive Systems support to investment in companies (SI) of the National Strategic Reference Framework 2007-2013 (NSRF) through a counterfactual evaluation. At this point of the proposal the detailed understanding of the team about the objective and the object of the evaluation is presented.

Supporting Youth in Portugal, CIE of Vocational Training and Traineeships
Principal Researcher
The Portuguese authorities responsible for the coordination, management, monitoring and evaluation of the ESF in Portugal have been involved in recent years in several efforts to improve the knowledge regarding the impact of ESF-related policies. The project intends to contribute further to this effort, by bringing together the main public bodies involved in the monitoring and evaluation of the ESF in Portugal (IGFSE and Observatório do QREN), public institutions responsible for vocational training and traineeship programs and/or the corresponding statistical data (IEFP, GEP, IISS, and DGEEC), as well as researchers from two Portuguese universities (University of Porto and ISCTE – University Institute of Lisbon) who have been involved in recently efforts to develop counterfactual evaluation on the impact of policies financed by the ESF in Portugal. This project is expected to lead to a more accurate and detailed knowledge of the impacts of vocational training and traineeships in Portugal. In addition, it will contribute to the development of knowledge related to CIE methods and practices among public agencies, academics, and the evaluation community in Portugal.

Financialisation, economy, society and sustainable development
Researcher
The research programme will integrate diverse levels, methods and disciplinary traditions with the aim of developing a comprehensive policy agenda for changing the role of the financial system to help achieve a future which is sustainable in environmental, social and economic terms. The programme involves an integrated and balanced consortium involving partners from 14 countries that has unsurpassed experience of deploying diverse perspectives both within economics and across disciplines inclusive of economics. The programme is distinctively pluralistic, and aims to forge alliances across the social sciences, so as to understand how finance can better serve economic, social and environmental needs. The central issues addressed are the ways in which the growth and performance of economies in the last 30 years have been dependent on the characteristics of the processes of financialisation; how has financialisation impacted on the achievement of specific economic, social, and environmental objectives?; the nature of the relationship between financialisation and the sustainability of the financial system, economic development and the environment?; the lessons to be drawn from the crisis about the nature and impacts of financialisation? ; what are the requisites of a financial system able to support a process of sustainable development, broadly conceived?’

ENTSOCNET - Entrepreneurs' social networks and Knowledge acces: the case of biotechnology and IT sectors
Researcher
Our goal was to understand the role of social networks of scientific entrepreneurs in the creation and diffusion of knowledge in biotechnology, with a view of contributing to the design of S&T policies regarding the interface between science and industry appropriate to intermediate development economies. There were five different stages: literature revision, two empirical research stages, a computerized simulation tryouts stage and, finally, conclusions and consequences for the implementation of public policies.
