Joana Martinho Costa is a member of the Interim Board of the School of Applied Digital Technologies (Iscte-Sintra), the director of the undergraduate program in Digital Educational Technologies, vice-president of the Specialized Committee on Pedagogical Issues, coordinator of the Implementation of Distance Learning Project at Iscte-Sintra and deputy coordinator of Information Systems Research Group (ISTAR).
Her academic background includes a 1st cycle degree in Computer Engineering from Universidade Nova de Lisboa, a Master's in Computer Education and a PhD in Education in the specialty of Information and Communication Technologies in Education from the University of Lisbon.
She has published in the fields of educational technology, technology enhanced learning and computer education. Her works include the authorship and co-authorship of 17 scientific articles, of which 15 are published in journals indexed in Scopus in Quartiles 1 and 2, and co-authorship of an international book. In 2021 she was the Discussant at the annual conference of the American Educational Research Association, in the Using Technology in Education section.
Her research interests focus on computer education, technology enhanced teaching and learning, educational technology and information systems in education.
